One of Manchester’s dining and leisure destinations, The Great Northern Warehouse has announced the launch of a new village hall on Deansgate Mews and to celebrate it’s hosting an exhibition curated by Manchester painting collective, PaintingWriting. The Village Hall, a space designed for community activity, is hosting ‘Tender Stems’ an exhibition which explores the link between food and art – created by a trio of Mancunian artists.
Having recently graduated from Manchester Metropolitan University, the collective which is made up of Katie Evans, Rachel Wharton and Mikey Thomas, explore the climate of painting through writing and exhibitions. The trio share a passion for conceptualising their art, as reflected in the group’s takeover as part of the city-wide art programme, A Modest Show.
The Tender Stems exhibition, which is available to view from August 5-7 between 11am-5pm at the village hall, displays a host of playful creations including sculptures, experimental photography and painting. To support the concept of the exhibition, a one-off book of conceptual recipes has been created which can be viewed by visitors at the exhibition.

Mark Schofield, Centre Director for The Great Northern, said: “Our newly opened Village Hall is open to all community groups in Manchester to share experiences and enjoy pastimes together. We’re delighted to launch the new space with PaintingWriting, an exciting up-and-coming creative force within the Manchester art sector.”
Katie Evans from PaintingWriting, said: “We are incredibly passionate about the work we create, and it gives us the greatest pleasure being able to exhibit our work to the arts community and general public. Aside from being an opportunity to view people’s work, it gives others a chance to meet likeminded people in an exciting new space.”
The newly opened village hall located on Deansgate Mews at Great Northern Warehouse, situated near the likes of The Mews and Platski, is being made available for local groups to meet and is already home to a weekly choir rehearsal, with a weekly mums and babies yoga session kicking off in September.
