We’ve had the August Gloop hot chocolate, but soon another chocolatey creation is set to arrive in the city. Bringing their infamous and absolutely huge Bertha chocolate cakes (reminiscent of the one Bruce Bogtrotter ate) with them, Northern bakery Get Baked has opened up a location in Manchester, meaning Mancs can get a taste of the mountainous cake. “You can do it, Manchester!”
Based in Leeds, West Yorkshire, Get Baked has taken social media by storm with their signature Bertha chocolate cake, with even celebrities including Jamie Oliver and Amanda Holden, to name a few, ordering the massive bake and sharing both their awe and love for it.
The location is at the former home of Live Well in Stevenson Square in the Northern Quarter. The bakery is open from March 14 and has taken over the space next door, making one huge megastore!
Adding to the excitement Get Baked has announced it will also be giving away 1,000 free slices of their Bertha chocolate cake from 12pm on March 15 as part of the Manchester launch. In an Instagram post, Get Baked said: “Something tells me it’s gonna be a busy one. We’re soft-launching our Northern Quarter site on March 14th, 12-10pm. Expect it to be a bit all over the place, because the first day of a new site is never easy.
“But that’s okay, because on the second day we’re giving away 1,000 free slices of Bertha. Nothing destroys a brand new team like 1,000 people all at once. Go hard or go home. Or even better, go harder and then go home. In tatters.
“No purchase necessary, although I’d much rather you did. Free slices will be very strictly limited to 1 per customer — I don’t care how dead your dad is.”
The Bertha cake has become a hit nationwide due to its monstrous size and delicious chocolatey decadence. It consists of 24 layers of dark chocolate sponge and dark chocolate ganache and even one slice of the whopping cake is not for the faint-hearted let alone the whole entire cake. But unlike in Matilda, you should be able to sit at home and eat the cake in peace as opposed to having an audience like Bruce Bogtrotter.
Get Baked has also previously launched a Biscoff flavour of their viral cake which features multiple layers of dark chocolate sponge, Biscoff ganache, dark chocolate ganache and a Biscoff crumb coating the outside of the cake. The cake has become so popular that it can also be enjoyed in jar form and as Bertha balls meaning you can enjoy those chocolate cake flavours without having to take on the huge slice of it. Get Baked has even launched a chocolate cake scented candle, since it not only tastes good but smells damn good.
As well as serving humongous slices of their signature Bertha cake, Get Baked makes luxurious pies to order. Flavours include the likes of Lemon Meringue, Mississipi Mud, Caramel Fudge Brownie, Biscoff, Birthday Cake, Banoffee and even a Frankenpie (a mix of 10 different pie slices).
Once Get Baked opens in Manchester, fans will also be able to order their much-loved brownies, puddings and cookies. Their baked goods are always a sell-out both in store and online, with constant updates as to when the Bertha chocolate cake, in particular, will be back in stock.
