It’s no secret that we all delved into the wonderful world of fiction as soon as the Panny D hit, and thankfully, it’s a hobby that seems to have stuck for the majority. But while the masses of us were getting our heads into easy reads by the likes of Sally Rooney and Julia Quinn, Queer Lit founder Matthew Cornford was finding a gap in the market for Manchester’s first dedicated LGBTQ+ bookshop. A bookshop which, today, has two years of success under its belt and a newly-opened brick-and-mortar store in Manchester’s thriving Northern Quarter.
Now, announcing their next move, Queer Lit is set to team up with beloved wellbeing cafe Feel Good Club, where they’ll be hosting a brand new monthly book club dedicated to some of the very best queer titles.
Kicking off on the 29th June, the ongoing club will allow literature fans to get together on a monthly basis, in a space where they’ll be able to discuss and share their thoughts on each month’s book freely and openly.
The first event will see attendees getting stuck into Julia Armfield’s Our Wives Under the Sea, and the titles will change every single month, giving attendees plenty of time to read the next book. Queer Lit will also be ensuring the book club is as affordable as possible, selling each book for the club at cost price – making it a pretty cost-efficient way of keeping up with the best new titles.
The first event takes place on 29th June at 7pm, with each event afterwards taking place on the last Wednesday of every month. Each event will be ticketed, with just 70 people allowed to attend each event. Get your free tickets here.
