Manchester City Council may have cancelled the city’s annual Bonfire Night staples once again, but thankfully for us Mancs, Freight Island and Mayfield Park, are here to save the day. Hosting an epic fireworks display for two nights in a row, November 4 and Guy Fawkes Night on November 5, Freight Island and Manchester’s first new park in 100 years, Mayfield Park, will be starting the festive season with a literal bang.

Freight Island and Mayfield Park are set to light up the sky with an incredible fireworks display that will surely fill the giant void left behind by Heaton Park’s beloved (and very, very cancelled) display. The Bonfire Night event will be hosted across three sessions, with the early session on Saturday 4th November opening at 5.30pm, with the show starting at 6.30pm; the late session on Saturday 4th November opens at 7.30pm, with the show starting at 8.30pm. Lastly, the Sunday 5th November session opens at 6pm, with the show starting at 7pm.
As well as hosting a fireworks display, the venues have teamed up with Walk the Plank to present an enchanting Fire Garden, a touring installation designed by Walk the Plank featuring hand-crafted fire sculptures with theatrical element. Taking over the 6.5-acres area of Mayfield Park, the outdoor fire installation promises to deliver a dazzling spectacle.
Mayfield Park will be transformed into an other-worldly landscape for one weekend only, where audiences are invited to explore the Fire Garden – featuring flame-lined paths amongst copper flowers that breathe fire, intricately carved flaming flower boxes, and scorching sculptural trees.
Following the marvellous Fire Garden, each session will conclude with a mesmerising fireworks display filling the night’s sky above Mayfield Park and next-door Freight Island.
Conveniently located right next door to Mayfield Park, Freight Island hosts a range of kitchens and bars including premium smashed burger from Burgerism, giant 22” pizza and slices from Voodoo Ray’s, slab shack from Lazy Tony’s Lasagnaria and much more. In true Freight Island style, Bonfire Night will be accompanied with remarkable entertainment, with DJs sets and live music throughout the evening.
Tickets to the Fireworks & Fire Garden at Mayfield Park are priced at £12 for adults, £8 for kids (aged 3-16) and free under 2s. Family tickets available (2 adults and 2 kids) for £35.
