Dunham Massey knows how to put on a show, whatever the time of year. The beautiful National Trust site, just outside of Altrincham, hosts events throughout the year, and boasts a lovely deer park and plenty of rural land to wander through, but most of us look forward to the Christmas light trail that pops up every year, and it’s now open for 2024.
From 15 November to 1 January, masses of twinkling lights, magnificent installations, and seasonal music come together against the beautiful backdrop of the Dunham Massey gardens, moat and park. This unforgettable, family-friendly festive event is perfect for making memories with loved ones. Find beams of light amongst ancient trees, marvel at dancing lights on the moat, and discover beautiful installations along the winding paths of the gardens.
The event, which will be its eighth run this Christmas, has transformed the beautiful formal gardens and deer park with festive lights trailing throughout. The incredible installations are undoubtedly a sight to behold, with plenty to see for kids and adults alike. Christmas at Dunham Massey is full of seasonal surprises and shimmering reflections that cast light on beautiful silhouettes of majestic trees, all choreographed to a soundtrack of festive favourites.
Gasp at the huge strobe effects that flood the park and waterside with colourful lights, walk through light-covered tunnels (brilliant for photos) and walk alongside artistic-looking light sculptures. Discover colour-changing battens of light stretching out into the distance, a tunnel filled with stars that reflect the colours of the rainbow and a glittering display of lights across the lake, just some of the new lights to see this year.
Matthew Findlay, Head of UK Trails for Sony Music/Raymond Gubbay Ltd, said: “Positive public feedback was overwhelming last year and we urge everyone to come and see our exciting new installations for 2024. This year’s trail will be a fantastic combination of spectacular new creations and some classic favourites, which will delight visitors young and old in what has become a Christmas family tradition for so many people.”
At Dunham Massey you’ll also find independent street food vendors serving tasty treats as you walk past the glimmering light installations created for this year. Complete your walk under the stars with a spiced winter warmer or hot chocolate or by toasting marshmallows over an open fire for a warm and sweet seasonal treat.
