After what has felt like an incredibly long build-up Colors Festival has finally opened its doors today on May 19. The stunning celebration of the best of street art is debuting in the UK right here in Manchester. Tickets are still available, but they’re selling fast so grab yours sooner rather than later. The family friendly experience is a delight for all and takes over a giant repurposed space that spans 800m² and is filled with larger than life artwork. The experience has taken over Regent Retail Park in Salford and showcases the works of 30 established and local artists on a huge scale.
So what can you actually expect at Colors Festival?
Well as mentioned the works of 30 established and emerging artists will be on display, but in larger than life fashion. Expect artwork that covers entire walls in a venue that’s been completely repurposed for the experience. The artwork will include images of some iconic faces which we can’t reveal yet but that gorgeous Frida Kahlo mural you see above was done by Jo di Bona for the Paris edition and he’s got something new in store for Manchester. You’ll find yourself strolling through brightly coloured immersive rooms that have the XXL sized art plastered across the spaces creating a unique art experience you can interact with.
You’ll be treated to art across a range of mediums including photography, street art, paintings and more. As much as having the works of renowned names is great, what’s equally important is that Colors Festival is championing local talent in a big way. Rather than being pushed off to the side, there’s going to be a room dedicated entirely to Manchester artists. It’s going to be fun for the whole family and is sure to turn anyone who visits into at least a bit of an art lover.
