Captain Tom Moore Has Won A Pride Of Britain Award For His Incredible Fundraiser

By Laura Rogan April 23, 2020

His garden laps raised an astounding £28m!

After successfully completing 100 laps of his garden before his 100th birthday to raise funds for the NHS, Captain Tom Moore has been awarded a Pride of Britain award, live on Good Morning Britain today.

The 99-year-old veteran was surprised with the award by Good Morning Britain presenter Carol Vorderman, acting as an early birthday surprise for his incredible achievement. Tom also received high praise from presenter Piers Morgan, which in itself is a huge honour, with the presenter saying he was “the kind personification of Pride of Britain”

Naturally, the whole ordeal had everyone (including myself) in tears of joy, as the veteran thanked everyone who voted for him, saying: “That is absolutely amazing. It’s very difficult for me to believe something like this because the Pride of Britain award is a very important one. You are all so very very kind.

“I thank all the people who nominated me for the award. I am very humbled by receiving this magnificent award. I’m completely taken aback by this because I know it’s such an important award.”

The Pride of Britain awards take place annually, hosted by Carol Vorderman, and honour British people who have acted extraordinarily in challenging situations – which Captain Tom Moore embodies completely, if we do say so ourselves.

Captain Tom raised millions over the course of five days earlier this month, with donations on his Just Giving page now sitting at a whopping £28 million. All of which will be donated to the NHS.
