Canvas Social on Oxford Road in Manchester is a fairly unassuming restaurant with immense steak, housed in one of the new Circle Square buildings, and having been renovated and new businesses brought in, it’s definitely worth a trip. The upstairs restaurant boasts a beautifully redecorated open space, making for a casual dining experience perfect for a quick bite after work or a midweek date night.
The inspiration for the steak led global small plates Canvas Manchester has to offer comes from the increasingly diverse nature of the Canvas event programming, the surrounding neighbourhood and Manchester city as a whole. With a dynamic and international audience on the doorstep, they want anyone from anywhere to be able to walk in, feel welcome and resonate with their menu.
Catering the restaurant is dynamic duo Kyle and Ellie, masterminds behind Hatch success Parmogeddon, with their latest venture Block Steak Shop. The pair have curated a global menu which includes Flat Iron Steak (the £10.50 wonder) and Bavette – served with your choice of sauce and gorgeous rosemary and sea salt fries – with options such as Steak Mezzaluna Bread which don’t necessarily require cutlery…
There’s also plenty of choice for non meat-eaters, with halloumi and veggies, including astounding Portobello mushrooms, on offer as alternatives in most dishes.
Canvas Manchester has really upped its game in terms of drinks to go with the steak, too, with classic and signature cocktails alike on the menu including martinis, daquiris, a chamomile sidecar and the Junglebird, many of which are also available at the restaurant in an alcohol free version.
Not only is the bar and kitchen a fantastic new addition to our city centre cuisine, but Canvas boasts an events venue that’s already held so many great do’s. Whether it’s the next big thing playing a live gig, or a club event you never want to end, it’s all at our fingertips at Canvas – so you can keep the night going once you’ve lined your stomach in the restaurant.
On its opening, Canvas said: “Music and culture are at the heart of this neighbourhood hub with a diverse programme of daily sounds through curated playlists, regular live music, DJs and late entertainment”, which they are certainly living up to.
