If you ask most locals from Bury where you need to visit in the Greater Manchester town, you’ll most likely be pointed towards the ‘world famous’ Bury Market. As you mooch around the stalls, you will probably pass one of the market‘s longest standing traders, The Bury Black Pudding Company, which is set to appear on this week’s episode of BBC’s Inside the Factory.
Hosted by Cherry Healey and Bolton-born Paddy McGuinness, the show explores the fascinating production processes behind some of Britain’s favourite foods. As part of this episode, it will take viewers behind the scenes at The Bury Black Pudding Company’s factory in Bury, revealing how the UK’s favourite black pudding is made – from production to the final product that reaches shelves across the UK and other parts of the world.
Black pudding and Bury have been synonymous for over a century, with the company producing black pudding for generations using a time-honoured, gold medal-winning recipe. However, to adapt with the evolving tastes of modern consumers The Bury Black Pudding Company also produces white, chilli, vegetarian and gluten-free varieties.
As one of the longest standing traders on Bury Market, The Bury Black Pudding Company produces its famous recipe which dates back over 100 years. What started as a small butchers and stall has today grown into a British Heritage brand employing over 110 amazing local staff to produce over 100 tonnes of black pudding each week at the factory – equivalent to 435,000 slice packs a week.
Matthew McDermid, Brand and Marketing Manager at The Bury Black Pudding Company, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity to showcase the heritage and passion that goes into making our black pudding. We are incredibly proud of our history and our role in bringing this traditional product to consumers, we can’t wait for the nation to see how the UK’s leading brand of black pudding is made.”
