The theatre announcements are coming in thick and fast, with some of the most loved and anticipated shows in the world making an appearance in Manchester. We have now heard that The Book of Mormon, Broadway’s smash-hit musical, will be returning to the Manchester Palace Theatre in September 2024.
The Book of Mormon follows a pair of Mormon boys sent on a mission to Uganda, to spread ‘the word’ – a long way from their home in Salt Lake City. The resulting story is hilarious and jam-packed with catchy, witty songs, and has been celebrated the world over for its ingenuity and contribution to musical theatre.
Since making its world premiere in March 2011 at New York’s Eugene O’Neill Theatre, where it won nine Tony Awards, including ‘Best Musical’, The Book of Mormon has been performed on three continents and won over thirty international awards. The musical has smashed long-standing box office records in New York, London, Melbourne, Sydney and cities across the U.S.
The London production opened at the Prince of Wales Theatre in February 2013 when it set the record for the highest single day of sales in West End history and went on to win four Olivier Awards including ‘Best New Musical’.
The book, music and lyrics are by Trey Parker, Robert Lopez and Matt Stone, and it is directed by Casey Nicholaw and Trey Parker. Past cast members have included the likes of Josh Gad (Frozen, Beauty and the Beast) and Nikki James (Les Misérables), leaving us anticipating the cast for the UK tour.
Alongside Manchester, The Book of Mormon will also be visiting the stages of Birmingham and Edinburgh in 2024, in addition to its continuing run in London at the Prince of Wales Theatre. Tickets for all UK dates will go on sale at the same time on November 10.
General sale for on The Book of Mormon at Manchester Palace Theatre will begin at 10am on Friday 10 November here.
