A wonderful gesture for their hard work during the pandemic.
Remaining open during the pandemic as an ‘essential’ retailer, the team at B&M have been right at the forefront as keyworkers – getting out of bed each day and risking their health to ensure we stay well-fed. And now, as a huge thank you to their staff, B&M will pay their workers an extra week’s wage. The generous bonus will be gifted to around 30,000 staff members, and comes after the business saw profits skyrocket over the festive period.
Simon Arora, founder and chief exec of the budget-friendly chain said: “Our trading performance is testament to the hard work and commitment of all our colleagues, to whom I express my sincere thanks.
“The safety and wellbeing of our customers and colleagues has remained our priority during these unprecedented times, whilst we have worked hard to provide customers with the everyday essentials they need.
“We are awarding some 30,000 store and distribution colleagues an extra week’s wages in recognition of their considerable efforts.”
The business also created around 500 new jobs for communities last year with 18 new stores opening across the country.
B&M will remain open during Lockdown 3.0 – with both the main stores and garden centres open for business. A statement reads: “We have been deemed an essential retailer by the Government as the majority of our sales are Grocery, Household Cleaning, Personal Care, DIY and Pet Care goods.”
