It might not feel like it, but we’re actually in summer, and at least a few sunny English days are yet to come. One of the most soul-nourishing things you can do this summer is relax somewhere scenic, and now flavoured sparkling water company Dash has done the hard work to create an index that shows the best sunrise and sunset views across the UK. This index highlights the top spots where you can experience those beautiful moments of tranquility, making it easier for you to find that perfect place to unwind and soak in a summer’s day.
Research by University of Exeter shows that sunrise and sunset has the ability to significantly boost our feelings of awe. In turn, awe has the potential to improve mood, enhance positive social behaviour, and increase positive emotions, so we really want to be as close as possible to the best sunrise and sunset spots.
Analysing a number of factors including Google and Tripadvisor reviews, Instagram tags, TikTok searches, chance of rain and proximity to water, Dash has now revealed the UK’s best sunset and sunrise spots.
For those of us in the North West, the best sunrise and sunset spot nearest to Manchester won’t come as a huge surprise. Nestled in the rolling hills of Cheshire, the historic estate of Lyme Park features expansive gardens, tranquil lakes, and a stunning manor house, all of which are beautifully illuminated during the golden hours.
Lyme Park is famous for the warm glow that casts over its picturesque landscape at sunrise and sunset, reflecting beautifully on the park’s serene waters. It’s a gorgeous place to relax and unwind while taking in so much natural beauty, making it the best sunrise and sunset spot in the region, around an hour from Manchester city centre.
Next within our reach is the Liverpool Waterfront; a lovely spot to watch the sunset and sunrise thanks to its unique blend of natural beauty and urban charm. Situated along the River Mersey, this iconic location provides expansive views across the water, where the play of light and reflections creates a mesmerising scene.
Watch as the sky over Liverpool transforms into a canvas of vivid colours, casting a warm glow over the historic buildings of the Albert Dock and the striking silhouette of the city’s skyline. Liverpool Waterfront is also a public favourite, with a combined rating of 5/5 on Google reviews and Tripadvisor, and at just over an hour from Manchester, it’s within pretty easy reach.
Others on the list included London spots such as Hampstead Heath and Primrose Hill, the Clifton Suspension Bridge in Bristol, and Arthur’s Seat in Edinburgh, so Lyme’s in pretty good company.
