Taking residence in Manchester’s brand new dining destination and music venue New Century, BaoBros23 is bringing with it a beautiful, tasty creation fusing multiple cuisines together. Combining freshly-made fluffy bao dough with a retro British classic set within a hot dog-shaped bun, it’s the hybrid you never knew you needed.
After slinging bao buns and Asian street food from their food truck at Riverhead Brewery Tap in Marsden near Huddersfield, BaoBros23 has expanded and ventured over the Pennines to Manchester for us to feast on their delights. One signature dish that has turned our heads is their lobster bao dog and it’s every seafood lover’s dream.
Described by BaoBros23 as “a play on a very British classic ‘the prawn cocktail’ but on steroids”, the street food trader has taken it a step further using lobster and crayfish from fish supplier Sailbrand Ltd and hitting it with their Asian style Marie Rose sauce. The dog element to BaoBros23’s lobster bao dog is that the dish is set on a hotdog style steamed bao, this is then topped with crisp pancetta, black sesame avocado, salt & pepper tomato, petals and crispy shallots to create an unreal mix of textures.
Alongside their lobster bao dog, BaoBros23 also have the likes of bao buns such as ‘Kyoto Cluck Cluck’, consisting of a panko crumbed chicken breast and topped with pickled daikon, pomegranate and sriracha mayo; sweet potato jackfruit and quinoa baozi with mango, papaya, shallot and crispy onion salad; and katsu halloumi fries, comprised of tapioca fried halloumi, pomegranate, coriander, wild black rice popcorn and katsu curry mayo.
