Now usually, if you’d suggest an afternoon tea to me, I’d shoo you away at the thought of boring finger sandwiches and scones. There’s a reason it feels so circa 1880 – and it’s because that’s where it belongs. But if you said ‘afternoon tea’ followed by ‘American Pies’, you could colour me intrigued.
Newly introduced at Manchester’s first Chicago-inspired pizza joint, American Pies has cooked up quite the afternoon treat, and it’s a glorious sea of beige that doesn’t disappoint.
Consisting of three tiers of golden goodness, guests can get stuck into some seriously carby delights – including one of American Pies’ signature deep-dish pizzas, deep-fried lasagne, garlic knots, deep-fried dauphinoise, wotsit mozzarella wedges, smoked cheese lollipops and juicy ranch tenders – with guests able to choose which pizza will top it all off.
Cooked in 25 minutes inside garlic butter parmesan crust, each pizza pie is topped with chunky marinara sauce and consists of plenty of stretchy, stretchy cheese – with pizza options including classic mozzarella, pepperoni, spicy sausage, buffalo chicken, meatball and pepper, meat sauce, N’duja and fried aubergine.
Launching in place of the restaurant’s beloved Mate Date sharers, the new afternoon tea costs just £55 and (easily!) feeds two people – making for the perfect date night binge.
The epic sharing dish is served alongside a number of other tasty dishes on the menu, including their deep-dish pizzas, pizza burritos, and deep-dish garlic bread.
Afternoon Tea is available now at American Pies can be ordered any time. Find them at Unit 1, 58 W Mosley St, M2 3HZ.
