Aldi Is Releasing Pink Prosecco Just In Time For The Festive Season

By Laura Rogan October 28, 2020

I’ll cheers to that.

Becoming the first UK supermarket to bless us with the booze industry’s brand new ‘pink Prosecco’, Aldi is officially launching a Prosecco Rosé – and it sounds like our kinda drink. Following the Italian government’s approval of the newly created tipple, the drink is a fusion of both Rosé and Prosecco, bringing the bubbles just in time for Christmas.

Approved back in May, the fizzy bottles of goodness will be arriving in the UK for the first time ever in November – with Aldi serving up a market first. We always knew they were quick on the tills, and it turns out they’re quick on everything else too.

Wine expert, Mistress of Wine, Sam Caporn explains: “Shoppers might have already enjoyed Italian rosé (or rosato) sparkling wine, but it won’t actually have been Prosecco, because pink Prosecco hasn’t previously been permitted. Prosecco (like Champagne) is governed by strict regulations and Prosecco DOC has to come from grapes grown exclusively from nine provinces in the north east of Italy, and there are many rules in place regarding how it can be produced. Like standard Prosecco, the new rosé variety must be made primarily from Glera grapes but with the addition of Pinot Noir.”

Officially launching online from November 2nd, before rolling out across stores nationwide, fizz fans will be able to get their hands on a bottle (or two) for just £6.49 – with smaller, stocking-sized bottles available for just £2.29. Describing the tipple, Aldi has said it features a ‘delightful blend of strawberry and raspberry red berry fruits with a hint of white peach, finishing with a gentle citrus twist’.
