Aldi has announced it will be opening 16 new stores in the UK, including two in Greater Manchester, over the coming months. The supermarket brand, which now has more than 1,080 stores nationwide, will open new locations in regions such as London, Greater Manchester, North Yorkshire, Wales, and the West Midlands.
Aldi’s £370 million investment in new stores during 2026
The new Aldi openings, which include a store in Wigan and one in Hattersley, Greater Manchester, support the brand’s long-term ambition to operate 1,500 stores across the UK. The announcement follows the opening of Aldi’s new Salford Quays store last month and forms part of the retailer’s planned £370 million investment in new stores during 2026.

What is the salary for store assistants at Aldi?
Earlier this year, Aldi increased pay rates for store colleagues following a £42 million investment in pay during 2026. Store Assistant pay now starts at £13.50 per hour nationally, rising to £14.47 based on length of service, while colleagues within the M25 receive £14.88 per hour, increasing to £15.20 with service.
