It’s getting hot in here thanks to Indian restaurant Zouk, and my nose is running just at the mere thought of it. Celebrating National Chilli Day in a truly honourable fashion, Zouk has created the ultimate test of pain tolerance – and it’s certainly not for the faint-hearted. And when we say that, we mean, you’ll really have to sign a waiver if you want to try it. It’s that hot.
Their brand new dish is made with the world’s hottest chilli, the Carolina Reaper, which scores a whopping 2,200,000 on the Scoville scale. Ouch. For comparison, a Jalapeno scores just 8,000 – so it’s quite a big jump from your usual spicy kick of choice. The Karahi curry is traditionally known for its spicy taste, usually made up of garlic, ginger and a spicy Masala base.
The restaurant will be serving up the special curry especially for National Chilli Day, and due to its mammoth heat, those who dare to complete the challenge will receive the meal completely free, with a side of ice cream to help cool off with. Let’s face it, you’ll need it. If that wasn’t all, they’ll also receive a free Sunday roast platter for 2, which can be redeemed once your tastebuds have regenerated.
The challenge will take place on the 24th February from 12pm and can be booked in advance here by simply mentioning that you’d like the curry when booking. All the better to prepare yourself (and your tummy) ahead of time!
