Perhaps it’s a little snowverrated, but you’d have to admit that a white Christmas in Manchester this year would be quite something. Come on Brrrritain, give us something to shout about this year!
Admittedly, this actually happening in Manchester is largely just a fantasy each year, but that doesn’t stop us dreaming. Usually, the (admittedly fabulous) Christmas markets and lights – as opposed to the real icy, snowy covered streets – is all we get during the festive season, with snow usually showing itself in, I don’t know, February?
Although we’ve really only just had snow, it’s been a while since the last white Christmas in Manchester, though—will it be different this year? Let’s find out… *Drumroll please*.
Will Manchester get a white Christmas this year?
Well… no.
It’s unlikely at this point, but there is a slither of hope for a White Christmas in Manchester this year. For the period from Wednesday 18 – Friday 27 December, the Met Office says the weather will be, “widely unsettled on Wednesday with a spell of strong winds and periods of rain, heavy at times for most parts of the UK.
“Beyond this, it will remain changeable with a mixture of weather conditions through the rest of the period. The wettest and windiest conditions will probably be in the north, with spells of heavy rain at times as Atlantic low pressure systems pass by. Further south, whilst some unsettled weather is likely at times, it will probably be drier overall with a greater influence of high pressure.
“Temperatures will likely vary around average with both some milder and colder interludes at times. Snow will most likely be restricted to high ground, although could temporarily fall at lower levels in the north during any colder interludes.”
You know what they say, though. Anything can happen, so we’re holding out for an unexpected drop just cold enough to give us a picturesque snowfall on December 25 – if there’s a Christmas miracle. Just like the ones I used to know/see in films but never witness in Manchester.
Maybe next year, eh?
