We all know the weather in Manchester can be pretty bleak at times but did you know that we spend an average of 10 days outdoors a year? That’s a mere 2.7% that we are experiencing life beyond our typical four walls, however travel brand WeRoad is challenging Mancs to change that.
Taking over the 492m² giant billboard overlooking Manchester’s Piccadilly Gardens, WeRoad cheekily announced that “This ad may spend more time outdoors than you this year”. The ad was also accompanied by the above statistic on how much time we spend outdoors on average with the aim of encouraging the public to ‘beat this billboard’ since the ad will be up in the city centre for 14 days.
“WeRoad is about getting out and making new connections and new friends IRL (in real life),” said CMO Fabio Bin. “That’s why we chose Manchester, a vibrant city to communicate our way of travelling and making new friends.”
However, WeRoad describes itself as “more than just a travel company”, as not only can they help book your small group trip to visit the Pyramids of Giza, the jungles of Sri Lanka or the wonder of Machu Picchu, they are also in the business of making connections. Besides the big billboard in town, WeRoad runs and sponsors events, gigs, and meetups throughout the city, where people can meet fellow travel enthusiasts.
WeRoad hosts their own signature events known as ‘WeMeets’, which mainly take place in local bars and pubs across the city. Upcoming events in Manchester include the likes of watching the Euros matches screened live at Brickhouse Social, a social at Brewdog Doghouse and a gaming night at 1UP in Didsbury (many of which include free drinks).
Plus, WeRoad has even more in their backpack as the travel company is set to host surprise intimate music concerts in partnership with global music community Sofar Sounds and a number of summer festivals including wellbeing festival Wellnergy on July 6. Mancs can also attend summer events in collaboration with one of the city’s top LGBTQ+-friendly venues Feel Good Club and a WeRoad takeover of Kampus Fest with opportunities to win huge prizes, luxury adventures and more.
So if you fancy challenging WeRoad’s billboard, you needn’t have to leave Manchester. With a host of events taking place in the city, who knows where the next adventure will take you, but you could return with some new friends too, which is definitely a bonus. So go on, get out of your home, get out of your comfort zone and get exploring!
