Record shops provide a sanctuary for music lovers, especially those who have never been able to let go of the vinyl days. We’re so lucky here in Manchester to have so many traditional record stores celebrating all the city has to offer, keeping locals stocked up in every genre and form. One record store that offers that little bit more is Wax and Beans, just outside of the city in Bury town centre.
Offering a wonderful experience getting lost in the music and sitting down with a coffee in a cosy corner, Wax and Beans is Bury’s only independent record store, stocking new and used vinyl. There’s seating over two floors, with hot and cold beverages and selection of food, snacks and fresh cakes on offer, and everyone is welcome to enjoy the space that they have created, whether it be digging for vinyl records, enjoying a coffee, meeting with friends, finishing off schoolwork or just enjoying the music and atmosphere, and hopefully meeting shop dog, Luna!
The shop provides a turntable for customers to spin any of the pre-loved vinyl through headphones, and you can even bring your own to listen to. All the second hand vinyl that you can choose to listen to is available to buy… why not take the chance to enjoy before you buy?
Their website displays all vinyl that is available instore and allows customers to order online as well as request any new vinyl that isn’t listed, as Wax and Beans have contacts with every vinyl distributor in the UK, so you’re in very safe hands.
Wax and Beans is run by a force of nature, with the team being super passionate about music and vinyl. Events, signings and gigs are a regular occurrence too, with the likes of Courteeners, Inspiral Carpets and The Lottery Winners having all been down to the shop in close succussion last year, as well as what’s shaping up to be an immense Record Store Day celebration (20 April).
The community feel at Wax and Beans is fantastic, and pair the holistic collection of vinyl, from ABBA to Zappa, with coffee, cake and good conversation, it’s well worth a pop in if you’re nearby, or even a trip from out of town to show your support for an independent local business.
