Manchester has been home to many film and TV productions over the years, and now more than ever there’s plenty of quality media coming out of our city and region. One town that has taken the crown in TV and film productions of late is the Greater Manchester town of Bolton, and drama based on true events Toxic Town is next on the roster, out now on Netflix.
TV and film legends Jodie Whittaker and Robert Carlyle were spotted in Bolton in the summer of 2023 filming new four-part Netflix series Toxic Town, based on the real-life story of the Corby Poisonings, one of the UK’s biggest environmental scandals. Focusing on the mothers, who took on a David and Goliath battle for justice, the series traces through the years of their fight as a terrible truth comes to the surface.

The likes of Jodie Whittaker, Aimee Lou Wood (Sex Education, Daddy Issues) and Claudia Jessie (Bridgerton) play affected mothers in the scandal, giving emotional performances at the centre of the drama. Robert Carlyle, Rory Kinnear (Black Mirror, The Diplomat) and Downton Abbey‘s Brendan Coyle also star in roles of varying menace and support, and with this caliber of talent, Toxic Town is set to be a huge success.

Filming for Toxic Town was seen in Bolton town centre around Le Mans Crescent once again almost two years ago now, alongside Breightmet at The Mosley Arms, and since plenty of the plot is set to take place in an around court, we can expect to see much of the Old Magistrates’ Court being used.
Toxic Town has now been released on Netflix, and we’re looking forward to spotting any other local settings as we binge watch…
