The UK’s largest touring soapbox derby, Krazy Races, is once again set to transform the Greater Manchester town of Stockport into a high-energy, family-friendly spectacle. Brought back by Totally Stockport BID Company, with support from Stockport Council, following overwhelming demand, Krazy Races will return to the town on Sunday 9th August, and organisers say this year’s event is shaping up to be bigger and better than ever.
What to expect at Krazy Races soapbox derby in Stockport
The much-loved Krazy Races soapbox derby sees teams from local businesses, schools and community groups race their handmade carts down a purpose-built course in the heart of the town. You can join thousands of spectators from across Stockport and beyond to cheer on crazy, wacky, and outrageous soapbox racers as they launch themselves downhill in hand-crafted karts, tackling a 350m course packed with chicanes, obstacles, water splashes and more.
The event is fuelled by amazing amateur teams, competing not just to be the fastest, but also for prizes like Best Dressed, Best Design, and Best Showmanship – all powered by gravity, creativity, courage, and a little bit of luck. The competition will come down to a nail-biting knockout, with only the fastest 10 karts making it to the final for the winner’s trophy.
New additions to Totally Stockport Krazy Races 2026
New for 2026, the Italian Auto Moto Club will join the event, bringing an extensive display of classic cars. The showcase will see a stunning collection of iconic vehicles displayed throughout Stockport’s iconic Marketplace, offering visitors a chance to get up close to some special automotive history.
Adding to the excitement, organisers have also confirmed that a special aircraft flypast will take place during the event window. This year’s event will see a spectacular flypast featuring an aircraft from the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, with the final aircraft and timing to be confirmed by the RAF ahead of the event.
The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight is renowned for preserving some of the RAF’s most iconic historic aircraft and honouring the legacy of those who served during the Second World War. Whether it’s a Spitfire, Hurricane or Dakota, the flypast is set to be one of the standout moments of the day.

- 2pm-4.30pm – Afternoon racing
- 4.30pm-5pm – Top 10 fastest teams battle it out to see who will win
- 5pm – Awards & trophies presented at the start line
How to take part in the race
Demand to take part in the race has already been incredibly strong, with close to 30 teams signed up so far. With capacity capped at 40 teams, spaces are filling up fast, and organisers have confirmed that entries will close on Sunday 12 July ahead of the event’s official pre-meet hosted at Stockport County on Thursday 16 July.
Teams are encouraged to secure their place as soon as possible to avoid missing out on taking part in this year’s Krazy Races. Applications to enter a team and sponsorship enquiries are open now via the Krazy Races website.
