As this year almost comes to a close, The UK’s Top 100 Restaurants of 2022 by restaurant booking platform OpenTable have been revealed this month. Compiled from 1.4 million verified diner reviews, the list celebrates the UK’s world class dining scene, showcasing the variety of excellent cuisines and dining locations up and down the country from St Ives to Glasgow, with three restaurants in Greater Manchester making the cut.
For the second year running, Londoners looking for some of the most highly rated restaurants are in luck, with more than 60% of the Top 100 being on their doorstep, including the renowned CORE by Clare Smith and J Sheekey. Edinburgh had the highest number of new entries on the list outside of London, compared to last year, with five restaurants, including Greenwoods, White Horse Oyster & Seafood Bar and Mamma Roma Ristorante.
The Manchester dining spots which made the UK’s Top 100 Restaurants of 2022 list included steak restaurant Gaucho, city centre bistro restaurant Kala and The Cherry Tree near Bolton. Gaucho which currently has a 4.6 star rating offers a number of experiences via Open Table such as their Electro Brunch, pre-theatre menu and reserving a table for New Year’s Eve.
Kala on King Street, is which from the team behind North West restaurants Sticky Walnut, Burnt Truffle, Hispi, Wreckfish and Pinion, has a 4.7 star rating and rated highly for its food, service, ambience and value. As for The Cherry Tree in Blackrod, located between Chorley and Bolton, this spot has a 4.6 star rating and “aims to provide an unpretentious style of classic cooking with an emphasis on using seasonal produce, sourced as locally as possible.”
The list is accompanied by new research which revealed that seated diner numbers have increased by 13%, on average, across the month of November compared to the same time in 2019. In addition, nearly a third (30%) are planning on spending more on dining out this festive season, with the average total spend being £133.09 and nearly half (47%) of diners believe that the gift of a dining experience is better than a material possession.
