Since the Coronavirus pandemic hit two years ago, we’ve finally come to appreciate what’s right here on our doorstep. The city’s art deco architecture, the many nearby nature spots, the city-region’s intricate canal network – the latter of which just so happens to be home to a floating restaurant called The Waltzing Matilda.
Starting life in the midst of the ‘furlough era’ of the pandemic just last year, The Waltzing Matilda is back for the spring/summer season – and it’s the perfect stop-off after a wholesome weekend walk.
Founded by father-son duo Paul and Chris – Chris being a professional chef and Paul being a long-time resident of Macclesfield’s canals – the quaint narrowboat serves up authentic-style Neapolitan pizzas, alongside tasty extras such as gooey chocolate brownies, muffins, cookies and huge slabs of Rocky Road – all of which can be washed down with iced coffees and loaded hot chocolates.
Popping up in different locations all the time – from Stockport to Macclesfield and everywhere in between – the floating pizzeria serves up a small variety of different pizzas, including the classic Margherita, pepperoni, prosciutto, vegan cheese and even spicy N’duja – providing a little something for everyone (in addition to an array of natural treats for your four-legged friends, too!).
Offering seating on the boat alongside outdoor seating in the sunshine, too (depending on location), The Waltzing Matilda will continue to float along the Macclesfield Canal this summer, and is the perfect place to wind down after a dog walk or a potter along the water. Stay up to date with locations and even pre-order to secure your grub via their Instagram here.
