The UK has no shortage of grand old houses – castles, palaces, stately manors but few inspire the kind of wide-eyed wonder that Chatsworth Estate does.
Set among hundreds of acres of sculpted gardens, rolling farmland and dramatic Derbyshire scenery, Chatsworth is one of the country’s most impressive historic estates. Its enormous limestone house, famously featured as Mr Darcy’s home in the 2005 adaptation of Pride and Prejudice, remains a cultural icon (and yes, the backside of Matthew Macfadyen is still proudly on display).
Now, visiting this legendary estate has become more accessible than ever.
A new way to stay at the Chatsworth Estate – without the hefty price tag

For travellers who dream of exploring the Peak District without emptying their wallets, Chatsworth Estate has unveiled The Hide, a brand-new family-friendly hotel just down the road from the main house. With double rooms starting at only £90 per night, it’s one of the most affordable ways to base yourself near both Chatsworth and the National Park.
This new offering stands in stark contrast to some of the estate’s other luxurious stays including boutique hotels and even an old hunting tower which often cost upwards of £400 a night. The Hide aims for comfort and practicality over grandeur, and that’s exactly why it works.
From Premier Inn to Peak District basecamp
Once a humble Premier Inn, the property has been thoughtfully refurbished since being acquired by Chatsworth. Guests can expect refreshed rooms, modern decor, and a brand-new restaurant. Families are front and centre in the redesign: think built-in bunk beds, a cosy play area in the breakfast lounge, and plenty of space for little adventurers to run about.
Every room comes stocked with a guide to the best local walks – a welcome touch when the Derbyshire moorland begins right outside your door. Whether you’re a seasoned hiker or prefer a gentle countryside stroll, the area is bursting with trails and scenic views.
Car-free travel to Chatsworth House and Peak District

A local bus service connects the hotel to both Chatsworth House and the wider Peak District, making car-free travel a breeze. It’s ideal for those who prefer to let someone else do the driving or plan to finish their walk at a traditional pub.
Dog lovers are welcome too. The hotel even features an outdoor dog-washing station to help keep muddy paws under control before heading indoors.
The only catch? Access to Chatsworth House and its gardens isn’t included, so you’ll need to book that separately.
Whether you’re travelling solo, exploring with the kids, or bringing along a muddy-pawed spaniel, The Hide offers an affordable and welcoming gateway to one of Britain’s most beautiful regions.
