It’s awards season, so we’re no stranger to seeing lists of nominees left, right and centre, but one ceremony that isn’t taking place for while is the 2025 inductions into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Known as ‘Music’s Highest Honor‘, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame has announced this year’s nominees, with voting taking place until April, and our very own Oasis, New Order and Joy Divison have been named in the shortlist.
The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame has been going strong in Cleveland, Ohio since 1983, bestowing honours upon the best and most legendary in music history and present. The likes of Elvis Presley, Stevie Nicks, ABBA and Bob Marley have all been honoured (some twice, like Ms. Nicks), and the accolade is something most musicians work towards for their entire careers: basically, being inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame is a really big deal.

Musicians become eligible for induction into the hall of fame 25 years after the release of their first recording. Every year at around this time, the Hall of Fame releases a shortlist of around 14 musicians and bands, from which fans can give their vote (seven votes per day, in fact) to their favourites. Inductees are then announced in April, the 21st this year, and those nominees with the highest vote total (and more than 50 percent of the total vote) are inducted – five to seven performers being chosen each year.
This year, the committee has selected Manchester’s own Oasis, and Joy Divison and New Order (as one entry) to be on the shortlist, and with so many iconic tunes between them, we feel proud to assume at least one of them will make it. We should note, the decision was made to combine Joy Division and New Order as one flows into the other – New Order having carried on and developed the Joy Division ethos after front man Ian Curtis‘ death in 1980. Having said this, the two have differing sounds, so will be interesting to see if this bolsters their chances.

In our opinion, it’s pretty impressive for Oasis to be nominated for the Hall of Fame in the same year as Joy Division and New Order, since the latter have a strong decade or two on the Gallaghers, and the huge names that accompany our Manchester entries only show how world-renowned they are.

Once the inductees are announced, they are honoured in a special exhibit located in a wing of the actual Rock & Roll Hall of Fame museum that juts out over Lake Erie. The annual induction ceremony, held in New York City in the autumn and featuring performances by inductees and prominent guests, tends to culminate in an all-star jam session, envy of every music fan ever.
