It’s been a hot old summer so far, not just here in Manchester, but across the country – if not the continent. With several heat waves combining to maintain the heat for weeks into months and so much mugginess we haven’t felt a refreshing breeze since April, we’re starting to wonder, will we ever see rain again?
For a city branded the ‘rainy city‘, Manchester in particular is struggling more than usual, but of course, rain will eventually head back to us. But when will that be?
Met Office weather forecast for the North West
Here’s the forecast for the next few days in the North West, according to the Met Office:
Tonight (July 24)
The evening looks mainly dry with a few clear intervals, though cloud will increase for a time overnight bringing patchy rain. Turning dry and a little clearer again later. Minimum temperature 13 °C.
Saturday (July 25)
Early sunshine will give way to thickening cloud and outbreaks of rain on Saturday morning, accompanied by fairly brisk winds. A breezy and showery afternoon will follow. Maximum temperature 21 °C.
Outlook for Sunday (July 26) to Tuesday (July 28)
Sunday will be a fresher, still breezy day with sunshine and scattered showers. Staying more changeable than of late into early next week. Some sunshine, though rain at times too.
Which Greater Manchester areas will see most rain this weekend?
According to WXCharts, overnight on Saturday and early on Sunday will see the most rain in the region. The most rain is likely to cover from Cheshire, over Merseyside and most of the Greater Manchester area, up into Lancashire. The most concentrated areas of precipitation seem to be around the Oldham area into Saddleworth, and out into Marple and Tameside.
As much as this rainfall will be welcomed by the plants the region over, there doesn’t seem to be all that much in the way of rain after that. The Met Office predicts the odd spell of rain throughout August, but no real promise of any relief.
