Fancy running away from civilisation to your very own Ivory tower (of sorts)? This massive castle just one hour from Manchester is the perfect place for a staycation close to home. Featuring original Medieval-inspired features, Peckforton Castle provides a tranquil backdrop for guests in the heart of Cheshire, with acres and acres of secluded grounds to explore.
The Peckforton Grounds date all the way back to 1840, with the castle itself dating back to 1851 – retaining its beautiful, original architecture to this day. The listed heritage building has even featured in huge film and TV productions, providing an old-time feel to movies and shows such as Robin Hood, Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Who.
On the premises, guests will be transported to an enchanting kingdom that’ll feel more like the kingdom of Arendelle than Cheshire, with grand bedrooms complete with four-poster beds, arched and intricate windows, exposed stone walls reminiscent of another time and traditional castle lighting throughout.
Elsewhere, guests will find the rustic-style wine cellar that’s ideal for channelling your inner Cersei Lannister, decked out with warm candlelight and fine wines to enjoy.
The whole place has a romantic air to it, so it’s not surprising it’s a popular spot for those looking to tie the knot. There are 48 beautiful rooms to choose from, all boasting a sense of history, with period features and luxurious finishes. The en-suite bedrooms have free-standing tubs too, with big flat-screen teles and 24-hour room service for those who really just wanna kick back and relax.
There are two extra special restaurants on the premises, one serving decadent dishes that are almost too divine to eat, and the other offering a more relaxed dining experience in the form of a Brasserie – with a little something for everyone. Both dinner and afternoon tea are quite the spectacle, with perfectly presented dishes that scream “Instagram me!”.
Every corner of the castle is incredibly photogenic, with many rooms still featuring the original exposed stone walls, castle gates still intact, and a Hogwarts-like courtyard at the front. Guests can explore the grounds on foot or in a one-of-a-kind Land Rover experience that takes you through the stunning Cheshire countryside.
Peckforton Castle is located at Stone House Ln, Tarporley, CW6 9TN and there’s a number of accommodation and spa packages available to check out here.
