Beer-drinking commuters rejoiced when Victoria Tap opened its doors in Manchester late last year, bringing the vibes of Piccadilly Tap to Victoria Station. Now the team behind these Taps have covertly announced a third location: the Oxford Road Tap, servicing the UK’s worst train station.
In an Instagram post, the brand new Oxford Road Tap account posted an old school photo of the side entrance/exit at the station, with the caption: “Great beer is just a few steps away… #OxRdTap #Manchester #newsite #BLG #comingsoon”.
The team aims to bring good ale and a place to sup away the time at Manchester Oxford Road station before you catch the train or explore the city, making it a no-brainer location, as it’s one of the busiest stations in the city. The news comes as Oxford Road Station confirms a much-needed upgrade, so hopefully this will all herald a new era for the station.
Manchester Oxford Road station already benefits from great watering holes if you exit the station and explore the area, including Thirsty Scholar, Dog Bowl and The Refuge, however the only real place to drop in on the station premises is Manchester’s own Java cafe, which, of course, doesn’t cater for the pint crowd.
Already a city centre pub crawl staple, the Victoria Tap boasts a whopping 19 kegs of beers and five casks, a lot for the small space it covers, championing beer from all around the region. Taking up an old storage space at the station entrance, it also has a heated beer garden to the back, extending down to the tracks, meaning you can watch the trams go by with no care in the world (unless you were supposed to be on that tram, of course).
There’s no date or location confirmed yet for the new Oxford Road Tap, but we will be sure to keep you updated when the news hits.
