It has been quite the couple of years for the Gallagher brothers, and after the long-awaited Oasis reunion, the boys are now getting their flowers, joining iconic Mancs Joy Division and New Order in being inducted into the legendary Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland.
In 2025, both Oasis and New Order/Joy Division were nominated for the honour, but narrowly missed out. Joy Division and New Order will be inducted as one combined band, given the founding members of the latter were all in the original band with Ian Curtis (bar one).
The 2026 induction will see six British acts in total being honoured, including Phil Collins – previously inducted in 2010 as a member of Genesis – and Billy Idol.
When are acts eligible for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame?

Acts become eligible for inclusion 25 years after their first commercial release, meaning the honour has come pretty sharpish for Oasis, but for Joy Division and New Order, it’s been a long time coming.
Joy Division released their first full album ‘Unknown Pleasures‘ in 1979 on Tony Wilson’s iconic Factory Records, and their second and last ‘Closer‘ just one year later. Bringing us ground-breaking and enduring hits including Transmission, Love Will Tear Us Apart and Disorder, their commercial success feels simultaneously a very long time ago, and still applicable to the cultural bones of Manchester to this day.

After Ian Curtis’ untimely death in 1980, New Order was formed from Joy Division members Bernard Sumner, Stephen Morris and Peter Hook, with keyboardist, singer and songwriter Gillian Gilbert joining them, producing the likes of Blue Monday, Regret, Age Of Consent and Bizarre Love Triangle – seminal hits that feel equally as relevant today as they did in the 1980s.
Relatively more recent success came for Oasis, as their iconic album ‘Definitely Maybe‘ was released in 1994, bringing us hits including Rock n Roll Star, Supersonic and Live Forever – songs which, once again, define Manchester to this day. Now, 32 years later, the Gallagher brothers are back together, and are finally being recognised for their services to music.
Liam being Liam took to X to make his feelings known when the band were snubbed in 2025, declaring that he wasn’t interested in receiving an award from “some geriatric in a cowboy hat“.
Now, he’s been forced to backtrack, saying: “Reverse psychology vibes in the area, Oasis RNR hall of farmers, I mean famers.”
He later posted: “I wanna thank all the people who voted for us it’s a real honour ever since I was a little kid and singing in the shower I’d dream about 1 day being in the RnR hall of tame it’s true what they say anything is possible if you have a dream LG x.” Classic LG…
