It feels like summer is here, and as we love to complain at any given moment, we’ll all be saying it’s too warm pretty soon. That’s where our local swimming pools come in handy, and to make the most of the weather it’s best they’re outside – and luckily for us, Nantwich Brine Pool is not too far out of our way in Manchester.
Much more than your average chlorine-pumped pool in the UK, Nantwich Brine Pool does what it says on the tin – the water is salted, with no added chemicals, which can help with stiffness in joints and muscles – and is generally more pure. The outdoor pool first opened to the public on 1st July 1935 and the pool water temperature is now maintained at 22°C, but through solar gain is usually much warmer.

Some older customers at Nantwich Brine Pool still reminisce about their school days at the pool, when they claim the water was only just above freezing point – and of course, they happily swam in it! These days, there are six lanes, with depths ranging from 0.9m – 2.3m, and thanks to the sun, the temperature tends to be around 24°C, give or take – lovely.
If you don’t fancy getting in, there are lots of sun loungers to bask in some rare sun, and pretend you’re on holiday, plus, there’s an indoor pool too, in case the weather turns (or you just fancy an indoor swim).

Online booking is essential for outdoor swim sessions in advance to avoid disappointment. Members can book eight days in advance, and seven days in advance for non-members – to secure your session at the outdoor pool, visit the ‘Ticketed Activities’ section within the Leisure Hub.
Casual swimming is also allowed at Nantwich Brine Pool – see Pay As You Go swim prices here.
