It goes without saying that as the temperature drops we turn to comforting dishes to ease us into the chilly autumn and winter months. With an autumn menu bursting at the seams with seasonal flavours and beautifully cooked British produce, Mount Street Dining Room & Bar offers a luxurious spot for Mancs to retreat to.
Tucked away in the lavish Midland Hotel, the modern British dining room provides elevated home dining in luxe art deco surroundings. Executive Chef Brian Spark focuses on using classic cooking techniques, utilising the restaurant’s in-house butcher, smoker and patisserie team to create a menu which brings to life British classics with a modern twist.
Joining the marvellous menu for autumn are new starters like Jerusalem Artichoke Soup with nettle pesto and truffle scented croutons just as soup season kicks in and packed full of flavour. You’ll also find Slow Cooked Pigs Cheek with watercress purée, Nasturtium leaf and pink grapefruit that melts away so nicely and offers a refreshing finish, and for veggies there is the Heritage Beetroot and Goat’s Cheese Salad with crispy nuggets of creamy goat’s cheese and earthy notes from the beetroot that screams autumn.
As for the new mains at Mount Street Dining Room & Bar, these are the epitome of comfort food but elevated to give a little luxury. Tuck into the likes of Roast Cannon of Yorkshire Lamb served with baragoule artichoke, spelt grain, lentils, broad beans, and mushroom ketchup- succulent meat, hearty sides and a sauce packed with umami to finish the dish. Pair with a glass of light red wine and enjoy.
The autumn season brings warm hues of yellow, orange, red and brown as does Mount Street’s menu with the addition of Butternut Wellington. Served with a fondant potato, charred cabbage and an unctuous roasted vegetable jus, all of which pair well with the buttery, flaky pastry, rich mushroom duxelles and soft butternut squash within this warming vegetarian Wellington.
And of course no cold autumn evening is complete without dessert- indulge in one of these sweet treats, watch the world go by through the restaurant’s large, arched windows and melt away in one of the cosy booths within the panelled dining room. Choose from Raspberry Trifle served with a sugared doughnut for a tart, creamy yet sweet hit; Custard Tart with a crisp pastry case topped with warming ginger crumble and zingy lemon curd ice cream; or Gooseberry and Elder Eton Mess with vanilla cream and white chocolate for a seasonal twist on a British classic.
As well as bringing a taste of autumn with seasonal dishes, Mount Street Dining Room & Bar is renowned for its pies, which are made daily in-house. Diners can choose from Mount Street Fish Pie, Mushroom and Chicken Pie and Baby Vegetable and Brick Pastry Pie. The menu also has two decadent sharing options, the Beef Wellington (that is definitely worth the wait) and Roast Sirloin steak on the Bone.
Each Sunday Mount Street also serves a selection of whole traditional roasts selected by the butcher. The whole roast rump of beef is served every week with beef dripping roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding, glazed carrots and greens, along with a choice of whole roast pork belly, slow roast shoulder of lamb or the finest whole roast Goosnargh chicken.
