The delicious combo that is steak frites has been taking the dining scene and online world by storm. What has been a classic dish in French and Belgian brasseries for years has now started to crop up more and more on menus across the UK, including Manchester. However, one spot in the city, Micky’s, has taken the dish one step further and is slapping steak frites in a baguette to create possibly one of the most epic sandwiches ever.
Housed in Norther Quarter bar and kitchen, PLY, the sandwich specialists who already serve up phenomenal focaccia with an assortment of fillings recently added the tasty dish to the menu. The Micky’s steak frites sandwich consists of succulent Littlewoods grass-fed bavette steak cooked to medium rare along with salted French fries, caper and shallot mayo on a demi-baguette made by Manchester bakery Half Dozen Other.
It’s meaty, it’s salty, it’s tangy and it’s crunchy – essentially everything we could possibly want from a sandwich. Plus, Micky’s is not stingy with the steak or frites – this a meal in a baguette.
However, the special sandwich gets even better… You can choose from three sauces to elevate the steak frites baguette including Micky’s Original, salsa verde or roast garlic butter and parmesan – oofff. As fine as this sandwich already is, you can add Swiss cheese and jalapeños to give that sandwich some unreal oomph or dip it in some ketchup, Frank’s hot sauce or black pepper mayo – hey, we are not judging.
We might all be queueing for this sandwich, however Micky’s sides mustn’t go amiss. If you want more fries and potato goodness, you can choose from cashew pesto, jalapeño cheese or garlic and herb fried potatoes or either sea salt or oregano sea salt fries.
Other tasty sarnies worth trying at Micky’s include the Bam Bam (peppered beef pastrami, melted smoked mozzarella, sweet pickles, biondi lettuce and French’s yellow mustard) and Pesto Parm (panko fried buttermilk chicken cutlets, mozzarella, parmesan, fresh basil, cashew pesto and marinara sauce) which can be made vegetarian.
You can find Micky’s at PLY, 26 Lever Street, Manchester, M1 1DW and it’s open Tuesday to Sunday, 11.30am – 4pm.
