Of course we know that Manchester is home to some impeccable music, and with the likes of the BRITs and the MOBOs coming to the city this year, the rest of the country clearly sees it too. Now, Manchester has been named one of the world’s top music hotspots as the Music City Awards 2026 approach, bringing together some of the most music-mad cities across the globe.
What are the Music City Awards?
This global competition celebrates how cities successfully leverage music to drive economic, social, environmental, and cultural development in their communities.

To make applications easier, data experts at SeatPick have analysed the numbers to reveal their top choices for Music City of 2026, with Manchester ranking 4th in the world. Their data looks at the number of music venues, concerts, festivals, music artists, and music businesses across major global cities, offering a unique view into how cities interact with and promote music.
Manchester has been ranked 4th in the world
In fourth place is Manchester, scoring 7.90 out of ten. Known for its iconic musical legacy – Oasis, The Smiths, Joy Division and so many more – and thriving grassroots scene, the city hosts 1,204 concerts per year across 116 venues.

Manchester supports 380 music artists and 72 music-related businesses, while hosting 26 festivals annually – and counting. From indie and electronic to arena-filling acts, Manchester continues to punch above its weight as a powerhouse of British music, and it’s only growing in our estimations.
Other top global music cities
Fairly unsurprisingly, Berlin was named the best city for music in 2026. Germany’s capital city scores a healthy 8.18 out of ten in the ranking, and with world-renowned clubs and venues like Berghain and the Astra Kulturhaus, it’s not hard to see why. Berlin is followed closely by our capital London, scoring 8.10, and the historically musical Vienna (8.08), which successfully balances classical roots with modern musical innovation.
Notoriously music-centric cities likes Nashville and New York don’t even touch Manchester in the rankings, coming 6th and 12th respectively. Although the Big Apple boasts a whopping 3,219 music artists, its nature as a bustling city allows for a much smaller number of festivals annually than its counterparts, and Nashville falls slightly short on the concert front, with sub-1000 per year, but does boast more festivals than Manchester.

Gilad Zilberman, CEO of SeatPick, said: “What really stands out in this data is that the best music cities aren’t always the ones with the most artists. Rather, they’re the ones where live music is tightly woven into everyday life. Cities like Berlin and Manchester have fewer artists than London, but higher audience concentration per venue, which typically leads to stronger ticket demand and more consistent sell-outs.”
