The 79 and 745 buses will be running on diversion tonight (Tuesday 3rd November) because of the Manchester United match at Old Trafford. The 79 is also diverted on Thursday for roadworks in Stretford and twice on Sunday, once for the Remembrance parade and once for another United home game.
Bus routes 79 and 745: dates and times of diversions
These are the times Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) lists:
- Tonight, Tue 3 Nov, route 79: 6pm–8pm and 9.45pm–11.45pm, two hours before kick-off and two hours after the match.
- Tonight, Tue 3 Nov, route 745: 7.30pm–8pm and 9.45pm–10.45pm, 30 minutes before kick-off and 60 minutes after the match.
- Thu 5 Nov, route 79: 9.30am–3.30pm, because of works on Barton Road in Stretford, between Chester Road and Chapel Lane.
- Sun 8 Nov, route 79: 10am–12pm, so the Stretford Remembrance Service Parade can take place.
- Sun 8 Nov, route 79 (United fixture): 2.30pm–4.30pm and 6.15pm–8.15pm.
- Sun 8 Nov, route 745 (United fixture): 4pm–4.30pm and 6.15pm–7.15pm.
The 79 links Salford and Stretford via Ordsall, MediaCityUK and Old Trafford, so the matchday windows hit it hardest. TfGM’s matchday page says that during the two-hour windows before and after a match, the 79 will only run between Salford Shopping Centre and MediaCityUK. If you normally ride towards Stretford at those times, plan an alternative route.
The 745 runs between Hulme and Roe Green. Its matchday diversions are much shorter, and they start closer to kick-off.
TfGM says matchday timings are approximate and can change with crowd movement. Leave a little extra time if you are travelling near the ground, especially after the final whistle.

The Thursday works fall in the middle of the day, so commuters should be largely unaffected. If you use the 79 for appointments or school runs in Stretford, allow extra time between 9.30am and 3.30pm.
