The pumpkin spice lattes might be creeping in along with the murmurs of Halloween, but autumn has not fully begun and the weather is proving just that. According to weather reports, Manchester could be set for a mini autumn heatwave this week with highs of up to 25ºC predicted. So, don’t put those shorts and flip flops away just yet as things could be hotting up again.
On Friday 6th September, Manchester is predicted to experience sunny intervals changing to partly cloudy by night time. The city is also expected to experience highs of 125ºC and lows of 16ºC, making it quite the contrast to our summer, which meteorologists say has been the coolest summer in the UK since 2015. The Met Office reported that these warmer temperatures, which are set to be experienced across the majority of the UK, are “well above average temperatures”, particularly across parts of western Scotland.
Across the North West, we’re expected to experience a brisk breeze and humid weather on Friday. However, The Met Office predicts that it will be a dry day with sunny spells likely breaking through the cloud in the west, though likely staying cloudy in the east. Which means a little bit of SUNSHIIIIINE for us – too soon?
However, like any good thing, it doesn’t last long. Temperatures in Manchester will gradually start to decrease following the mini autumn heatwave with highs of 23ºC and lows of 15ºC on Saturday (September 7) along with sunny intervals, followed by highs of 20ºC and lows of 15ºC on Sunday (September 8) but cloudy, before we return to cloudier and more overcast weather next week.
The Met Office outlook for the North West across the rest of the weekend says: “Largely dry throughout although a chance of occasional showers. Brightest in the west and feeling warm or very warm, especially in any sunshine.”
So slap on the SPF, and enjoy the weather whilst you can – it might even call for your last trip to the beach for the year!
