As work on transforming Manchester Airport’s Terminal 2 reaches completion, the new food hall, Great Northern Market is set to open its six new dining spots, making a spot of lunch before your flight that bit more luxurious. Several airlines have announced their transfer to the swanky new terminal, and following a £1.3bn transformation programme, Terminal 2 will feature a host of new shops, cafes, restaurants and bars – including a Chanel outlet, the airport’s first Wetherspoon pub, a Fever-Tree bar, on top of Great Northern Market.
As part of the £1.3bn redevelopment of Terminal 2, the airport is set to open a first-of-its-kind ‘market hall’ style eating area. The Great Northern Market will feature six street-food kitchens set around a central dining area, meaning groups of people can order from different, rotating pop-ups and still eat together.
Speaking to the airport’s official podcast Manchester: Your Airport, MAN, airport Retail Director Richard Jackson has confirmed the opening line-up of kitchens.
The first kitchens to open at Great Northern Market, Manchester Airport Terminal 2:
- Nashville Hot House – buttermilk chicken and other Southern favourites
- The Black Iron Grill – smash burgers and loaded fries
- Kouzina – Greek and Mediterranean inspired street eats
- La Casita – a variety of Mexican dishes
- Palms Café – pan-Asian dishes
- Napoli Street Pizza.
In addition to the six street-food kitchens, which take inspiration from some of Manchester’s finest street eats, Mancunian institution Gooey will also be bringing its assortment of sweet treats to the Great Northern Market, from coffees to cookies and donuts.
Richard said: “The Great Northern Market will be Manchester Airport’s own market hall – six kitchens in one, more than 1,000 square metres and 500 seats. It’s going to be a real hit with the Manchester crowd. Whatever you want, there’s something for everyone – and there will be a takeaway option as well, so you can eat in this huge 500-seat market hall area with plenty of seating, or you can just grab something to take on your flight.
“As you can imagine, it’s a very complicated build because we’re not just doing the one kitchen, we’re doing six, but it’s coming along well and we’re really excited to share it with our passengers.”
Jake Ansbro, co-founder of Gooey, added: “Gooey was born in Manchester, and the city has supported us from day one. Opening at Manchester Airport feels like a dream next step — a chance to share a little bit of what we do with people travelling across the world. We’re so excited to be part of The Great Northern Market celebrating Manchester next to some other amazing operators.”
What else can we expect in the new Terminal 2 at Manchester Airport?

Due to open in the coming months, the Great Northern Market is one of more than 20 new shops and restaurants opening in T2 as part of the second phase of Manchester Airport’s 10-year, £1.3bn transformation programme, now nearing completion. Earlier this year, a new section of the departure lounge opened that will adjoin the Great Northern Market, housing the likes of LEGO, Rituals and Joe & The Juice.
Once complete, the project will more than double the size of Terminal 2 and turn it into Manchester Airport’s main centre of gravity, with Terminal 1 set to close.
