Manchester’s direct link to Mumbai just got even better – as the North’s only straight shot to India’s buzzing financial capital now offer more frequent flights in a week.
It’s a huge win for anyone headed to Mumbai from Manchester, saving time, effort, and making travel so much easier for thousands since the first flight took off in July.
What’s new on the Manchester-Mumbai IndiGo flight route?
From today, the popular route will increase from three to four flights per week, marking a rapid expansion for what is already IndiGo’s first and only European service.
Since launching in July, thousands have taken direct flights between Manchester and Mumbai, with business travellers, tourists, and the region’s large Indian diaspora benefiting from shorter travel times and direct access to one of the world’s best cities. (I may be biased here)
IndiGo operates its state-of-the-art Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner for these flights, offering complimentary hot meals and both economy and IndiGoStretch seat options.
IndiGo’s impact on Manchester’s economy and tourism
Turns out, this route is more than just convenient. Metro-Dynamics predicted huge gains for the North: nearly £33 million in extra exports, around 250 new jobs, and over £12 million pumped into the economy every year – thanks to all that new business, trade, tourism, and easier connections.
Indian visitors are set to spend almost £12 million more in Manchester, and folks skipping indirect flights will save about £9 million a year in time and money. That’s a real turbo-boost for local businesses, universities, and anyone working across borders.
Manchester Airport Managing Director Chris Woodroofe said: “Here at Manchester Airport we are proud to connect the North to the World and few routes epitomise what that really means more than IndiGo’s connection to Mumbai. It’s connecting travellers to a vibrant and exciting destination, businesses to one of the world’s biggest financial hubs and the North’s Indian diaspora to friends and family. That’s why it’s no surprise that IndiGo is increasing the frequency of the route already. We all ways knew a connection between the UK’s global gateway in the North and India’s financial capital would be popular – and that has proven to be the case.
This is obviously great news for people and businesses in the region – because we know that this route is driving economic benefits worth many millions of pounds each year – but it’s also a real statement of intent from IndiGo and I’m looking forward to our continued partnership.”
So no more long stopovers or crazy detours. Just hop on, enjoy the meal (and the view), and land smack in the heart of Mumbai, one of the planet’s most exciting cities.
