As Black Leaf flees the nest following success at the Northern Quarter’s Alvarium, the casual cocktail bar has announced that a new foodie sensation will be taking over the kitchen – this time, Lazy Tony’s Lasagneria. A cult favourite among Italian cuisine fans, Lazy Tony’s opened during lockdown to local acclaim, quickly expanding into Foundation Coffee House for a summer pop-up. And now, after popularity with their first dine-in pop-up at the NQ coffee shop last year, they’re taking their slabs to Alvarium.
Bringing a menu of classic lasagnas filled with beef, pork and pancetta, Lazy Tony’s offers a hearty Italian offering, with not only your traditional slabs, but also vegan slabs filled with delicious plant-based alternatives, too. Keeping things fresh and modern, the talented chefs also frequently cook up an array of interesting specials, as well, with this week’s including steak and ale in a Newcastle Brown Ale beef gravy with Guinness bechamel. Other menu highlights include a variety of mac and cheese dishes, as well as stuffed sourdough subs, loaded fries and mozzarella sticks.
Announcing the news via social media, Alvarium said: “From Friday the 29th April, we will be welcoming @lazytonyslasagneria into our restaurant downstairs.
“Lazy Tony’s are hyped for this opportunity and we’re excited to bring them in and see where we can take the Alvarium brand alongside their partnership.
“Although we will be sad to part ways with Black Leaf, our space has always been one which allows small brands to grow into their own. Lazy Tony’s started in lockdown and immediately gained a great following. Each section of their menu has both veggie and vegan options and they, like ourselves and Black Leaf, are focussed on becoming a concept that you know and love. We look forward to seeing what Black Leaf will become in the future, and what Lazy Tony’s Lasagneria have in store for us!”
Black Leaf has confirmed that they will be temporarily closing their business, while they fine-tune their offering and find a brand new space to serve from.
Lazy Tony’s will open at Alvarium on Friday 29th April, however, it is unclear how long their residency will last. Their existing ‘slab shack’ in Ancoats will be closed for the next couple of weeks, while the team focuses their efforts on their upcoming venture, Little Dumplin Manchester. More on that soon…
