Manchester Restaurants Are Teaming Up For An Epic May Bank Holiday Food & Drink Festival

What better way to rejoin civilisation?

Looking ahead to the warmer months as COVID-19 cases begin to dwindle again, Escape to Freight Island has planned the ultimate bank holiday weekender – and it’s the perfect way to re-start life after lockdown. The dining complex will partner up with Eat Well MCR for the event, helping to raise funds to deliver meals to Mancs in need.

Celebrating the depth and diversity of Manchester’s food and drink scene, Kantina Weekender will invite along some of Manchester’s finest chefs and restaurants for the occasion, including the likes of Sam Buckley (Where The Light Gets In), Simon Martin (Mana), Mary-Ellen McTague (The Creameries), Gary Usher (Elite Bistros) and more, who’ll be teaming up with some of Manchester’s best restaurants – including Madre, Higher Ground, Tast, Dishoom (and many more), providing guests with culinary delights to try across the weekend.

Dan Morris, managing director of Escape To Freight Island said: “Kantina Weekender is an opportunity to finally come back together and share in the joy of food and drink. We are very proud to be able to showcase the talents of the Escape To Freight Island residents whilst they collaborate with some of the UK’s most prestigious chefs, brewers, bartenders and all round hospitality heroes. Manchester’s food and drink scene is a special one and we can’t wait to celebrate it.”

In addition to food and drink, Escape to Freight Island will host a fun roster of live entertainment, with exclusive talks, wine tasting sessions and more planned for the event.

Ancoats favourite Jane Eyre will be on hand to serve cocktails, with Pomona Island, Lervig, and Northern Monk teaming up on the beer offering. Deya and Camden Town Brewery will also be in attendance. The food and drink roster makes up just the first phase of the line-up, with more details expected to be announced soon.

The event will take place from Friday 28th-Monday 31st May, and tickets cost just £35pp (which is fully redeemable as credit to spend on the day). Find out more here. Escape to Freight Island has also announced the inclusion of new exclusive family slots, too, meaning all the family (including kids) can enjoy the fun throughout the weekend. There’ll be children’s films and activities to enjoy, as well as special dishes created especially for the kids. To book a family slot, email directly at reservations@freightisland.com
