Manchester is bursting with a range of cuisines but one pop-up kitchen offering a rather unique (and exceptionally tasty) cuisine is House of Habesha. And now the business nominated for ‘Best New Trader’ at the Manchester Food & Drink Festival Awards has a new home, which can be found at Contact Bar & Kitchen within Contact Theatre.
Following their soft launch, House of Habesha, which had a pop-up at secret Northern Quarter garden Mala, will be serving their delicious menu consisting of authentic Eritrean and Ethiopian soul food at Contact Bar & Kitchen to the public from September 30. The menu showcases incredible flavours from the cuisine, with vegan, vegetarian and meat based dishes on offer and is also widely gluten-free.
Customers can expect hearty, healthy, tasty food made using traditional Eritrean and Ethiopian methods, including insanely big curry platters, kulwa (meat chunks fried in spices, tomatoes and onion) loaded fries and spicy aromatic meat dish known as shekla. For those who can’t decide what to have or want the ultimate foodie experience, opt for the “Full House” which includes a bit of everything on the menu – guaranteed to set you up for a day at the theatre, university campus or simply for a day of good food.
Alongside House of Habesha, the Contact Bar (powered by street food team GRUB), will be serving a selection of locally sourced and fully vegan beverages, including craft pours and independent soft drinks, wines and spirits. Happy Hour at th. e bar runs from 4pm-6pm every day, where guests can enjoy house drinks for £4 (pints, wines and spirits) and this deal applies to students and NHS staff all the time. The bar also serves freshly ground coffee from Heart + Graft Coffee, available to sit-in or take-away, plus students and NHS staff get 10% off.
Keisha Thompson, Artistic Director and Chief Executive at Contact Theatre, said: “We are extremely proud to have House of Habesha at Contact to complement our fantastic drinks offering over the Autumn season. It feels great to support a local business that is really making a statement in this city with food that is both divine and healthy – wins all round! Make sure you pop in and try it out. I can’t finish it all on my own. Although, I will try.”
Find House of Habesha at Contact Bar & Kitchen, Oxford Rd, M15 6JA. The kitchen will be open from 10am – late, Monday to Saturday.
