Netflix is currently in production with a new series of its own called House of Guinness, which will tell the story of, you guessed it, the Guinness Family. Having stood in for the likes of New York and Birmingham in the past, Manchester is the perfect location to double as Dublin for House of Guinness, and it’s surprisingly convincing when throwing back to the 19th century.
The production of House of Guinness has so far used Stockport for filming, and now Dale Street in Manchester, which is currently filled to the brim with props including pigs, market stalls and shopfronts, luggage and carts. A covering of rubble has been sprinkled along the street to give the Manchester concrete that rustic, 19th century Dublin feel, ready for plenty of the black stuff to be produced and drank in House of Guinness.
From the creators of Peaky Blinders, which also used areas of Manchester and Bolton for its own production, House of Guinness is inspired by The Guinness family, and is set immediately after the death of Sir Benjamin Guinness. It’s all about the impact of his will on his four children, Arthur, Edward, Anne and Ben, and stars James Norton (Happy Valley), Louis Partridge (Enola Holmes), Anthony Boyle (Say Nothing, Masters of the Air), David Wilmot (Bodkin, Embers), Danielle Galligan (Shadow and Bone, Game of Thrones), Seamus O’Hara (The Northmen, Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves) and Finn O’Shea (Normal People).
The Netflix summary of House of Guinness is as follows: “HOUSE OF GUINNESS will tell the epic story of one of Europe’s most famous and enduring dynasties – The Guinness Family.
“Set in 19th-century Dublin and New York, the story will focus on the consequences of the death of Benjamin Guinness, the man responsible for the extraordinary success of the Guinness brewery, and the far-reaching impact of his cunning will on the fate of his four adult children, Arthur, Edward, Anne, and Ben, as well as on a group of Dublin characters who work and interact with the growing juggernaut that is Guinness.”
Netflix hasn’t announced a release date or even a release year for House of Guinness, but with filming underway now, we could see a late 2025 or 2026 release.
