When I first moved to Manchester close to a decade ago, one of the first, welcoming places I found was Home Sweet Home. It soon became a sanctuary for me as a newbie. A place where I’d sit with my laptop, hot chocolate in one hand and a fork full of cake in the other, and one I’ll always fondly remember as one of my favourite venues in the city. Which is why I’m absolutely devastated to write today that after a decade of warming hospitality, the once-popular brunch restaurant has decided to close its doors… Forever.
Announcing the news over on their Instagram, the restaurant announced: “After 10yrs of milkshakes, cheeseburger toasties, a million breakfasts and a whole bunch of happy tummies sadly guys it’s time for us to go. I know it sucks right, your go to place for fam and friends and a warm glow will be no more.
“HomeSweet will close its doors forever after service on Saturday 23rd July.
“We’re moving forward with exciting new projects and sadly HomeSweet just has to float away into the chocolate river. It’s been the most wonderful of times and we will miss soothing your hangovers and satisfying your cravings. Drop in, say goodbye and get your final fix. Goodbye sugar babies.”
Recently rebranding as HomeSweet after almost a decade as Home Sweet Home, the restaurant was well-known for its hearty, American-style menu, which specialised in filling brunch dishes such as fried chicken, waffles, burgers, pancakes and more. The bar and restaurant was also loved for its homemade cake counter, which was unfortunately scrapped during the reopening as HomeSweet.
Naturally, many a Manc has expressed their devastation over the news, with over 200 people sharing memories and vowing to visit one last time before it closes.
HomeSweet will close on Saturday 23rd July, so you have all month to get your fix before it shutters up one last time. Owners have also promised new projects are on the horizon, however, it’s currently unclear what these projects entail.
