Manchester is about to get a whole lot brighter this spring, as internationally renowned artist Luke Jerram is set to bring his latest masterpiece, Helios, to the stunning Victoria Baths – a stunning Edwardian jewel in Manchester’s crown.
Following the success of his previous works (including the famous globetrotting, floating Moon and Earth), Jerram is now turning his attention to the centre of our solar system, installing a massive, glowing Sun inside one of Manchester’s most historic swimming pools.
What to expect from Helios at Victoria Baths
This isn’t just a big lightbulb; it’s a high-tech artistic marvel. Here is what makes the installation a must-see:
- NASA-level detail: The 7-metre-wide sphere uses high-resolution imagery from NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory to recreate the Sun’s surface, including solar flares and sunspots.
- Immersive audio: Visitors will be surrounded by a custom soundscape by Duncan Speakman and Sarah Anderson, designed to mimic the rhythmic energy of solar activity.
- A unique backdrop: The glowing installation will contrast beautifully with the Edwardian tiles and stained glass of the Grade II* listed Victoria Baths.

- 21st March, 8:30pm – Daniel Avery (DJ) w/ Aletha x Helios: An atmospheric, euphoric set from techno auteur Daniel Avery beneath Luke Jerram’s giant sun sculpture Helios in the stunning Victoria Baths.
- 26th March, 7:30pm – Sound Bath x Helios (SOLD OUT): Join Life Is Sound for a relaxing and immersive experience like no other under the light of the Sun.
