We’re fans of weird, wonderful and engaging exhibitions here in Manchester, and now perhaps the most iconic body in the solar system is set to land in one of our most iconic buildings. The Sun is set to rise in Manchester next March, as internationally acclaimed artist Luke Jerram is set to bring his solar installation Helios to the historic Victoria Baths, filling one of its former pools with light and sound.
What is Helios?
Measuring seven metres in diameter, Helios presents the Sun in astonishing detail, using imagery captured by NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory. Internally lit and suspended, the sculpture reveals the Sun’s surface – its swirling patterns, sunspots and solar flares – using Victoria Bath’s exquisite Edwardian stained glass windows and tiles as its backdrop.

A specially commissioned sound composition by Duncan Speakman and Sarah Anderson will also surround visitors in a rich, immersive atmosphere inspired by the rhythms and energy of solar activity.
Helios at Victoria Baths will deliver an inclusive experience, offering something for everyone—whether seeking a moment of escape from the everyday or an engaging day out for the whole family. This landmark event promises a memorable and enriching visit for all audiences.
Why Victoria Baths?

Set within the Grade II* listed Victoria Baths, Helios casts new light on one of Manchester’s most beloved landmarks, creating a space for reflection, connection and renewal.
Helios will serve as a catalyst for creativity during its residency at Victoria Baths. This striking installation will be accompanied by Everything Under the Sun, an ambitious events programme designed to showcase a diverse range of performances and experiences. The full programme line-up will be announced in the coming months, promising an exciting month of cultural engagement at one of Manchester’s most iconic venues.
Victoria Bath’s CEO Anthony Baker said: “We’re thrilled to be welcoming audiences to experience Helios here at Victoria Baths. Luke’s masterpiece invites us to look again at something we all depend on but rarely stop to notice – the Sun.
“Within Victoria Baths it becomes both a source of wonder and reflection and we can’t wait to share this with our local community. Presenting Helios at Victoria Baths is the beginning of a new series of cultural and creative activities which will open up the Baths to a whole new audience.”
When will Helios be at Victoria Baths?
Helios will be available to experience from 17 March to 6 April, 2026.
