Following the incredible success and popularity of Fool Me Once on Netflix earlier this month, Manchester-based Quay Street Productions has announced that it will adapt a further two Harlan Coben thrillers this year, no doubt using Greater Manchester to film once again.
In a social media post today Netflix UK said: “Following the recent success of Fool Me Once (Top 10 in 91 countries!) we’re excited to announce two new @HarlanCoben limited series adaptations…
“MISSING YOU will begin production this spring, and will then be followed by RUN AWAY.”
The Coben novel Missing You follows NYPD detective Kat Donovan who, whilst surfing an online dating site, feels her whole world explode. Staring back at her is her ex-fiancé, the man who shattered her heart—and whom she hasn’t seen in eighteen years.
But when Kat reaches out to the man in the profile, an unspeakable conspiracy comes to light. As Kat begins to investigate, her feelings are challenged about everyone she’s ever loved—even her father, whose cruel murder so long ago has never been fully explained.
With lives on the line, including her own, Kat must venture deeper into the darkness than she ever has before and discover if she has the strength to survive what she finds there. This is classic Harlan Coben, and we can already see how this is going to translate into the style of Netflix thriller we have come to know and love, just like Fool Me Once.
Similar in thrilling tension, but completely different in subject matter, the synopsis for Run Away puts us in the protagonist’s mind: You’ve lost your daughter. She’s addicted to drugs and to an abusive boyfriend. And she’s made it clear that she doesn’t want to be found. Then, by chance, you see her playing guitar in Central Park. But she’s not the girl you remember. This woman is living on the edge, frightened, and clearly in trouble.
You don’t stop to think. You approach her, beg her to come home. She runs. And you do the only thing a parent can do: you follow her into a dark and dangerous world you never knew existed. Before you know it, both your family and your life are on the line. And in order to protect your daughter from the evils of that world, you must face them head on.
As Netflix says, these two new Harlan Coben thrillers are set to be filmed this year, and we can’t wait to see if we can spot any more filming locations, given how much of the region Quay Street Productions used last time.
