You won’t boo-lieve the creations that Manchester’s food and drink businesses are concocting this Halloween. From creepy cocktails to blood-curdling burgers, they might make you shudder but you’ll be surprised how satisfying they are- plus they’re sure to get you in the mood for the spooky season. Check out the most ghoulish and gorgeous food and drink to enjoy this Halloween in Manchester.
1. BAB’s Halloween kebabs
There’s no wrapped-up mummies at BAB, only creepy kebab wraps. The Manchester restaurant serving beautiful babs has been captured by the darkness this Halloween and will have charcoal black wraps on the menu decorated with Halloween-themed colours. Available from Monday 24th October to Monday 31st October, diners can devour Halloween kebabs topped with the likes of ham hock, Thai monk fish and mixed mushroom.
2. Siop Shop’s Halloween doughnuts
Halloween doesn’t have to be scary or sickly it can be sweet too. Adding to the spooky food and drink offerings in Manchester this Halloween, Northern Quarter doughnut and coffee shop Siop Shop has created some devilish and delicious doughnuts. You can choose from either a coffee and white chocolate mummy, a pumpkin-shaped doughnut that’s filled with a pumpkin spiced cream, or the vegan glazed ghost. Like all of Siop Shop’s doughnuts, the dough is super soft and fluffy, but this time decorated with a little bit of fright.
3. Slap & Pickle’s The Devil’s Dinner Burger
Slap & Pickle are at it again this time with their devilishly delicious black-bunned burger, available at all Slap & Pickle locations right through ‘til Halloween night. In between those midnight-black buns you’ll find two 40-day, dry-aged beef patties, American cheese, rashers of unfortunate souls, deep fried frogs and witches’ fingers (gherkins). shred-dead lettuce and blood sauce. Do you dare to get stuck in? Also know as a double cheeseburger with smoked bacon, deep-fried pickles, pickle spears, iceberg lettuce and tomato burger relish- that sounds more like it!
4. Almost Famous Hellfire Club Burger
Taking inspiration from the thrilling Netflix series Stranger Things, Almost Famous has created the “most world flippin fantasy Halloween special ever” in the form of their Hellfire Burger, available until mid-November. Consisting of a juicy double cheeseburger, tender birria beef, hellfire BBQ, curly fries, boss ketchup, jalapeno mayo, crispy pepperoni, pineapple onion and jalapeno relish, it’s a combination you’ll definitely want to get your fangs round. Thrown in some of their ‘Surfer Boy Pizza Fries’ comprised of wonderdusted waffle fries, pepperoni, nacho cheese sauce, boss ketchup, onion and jalapeno relish and you’ve got a Halloween feast. Plus, wash it all down with an ‘Upside Down Lemonade’ of Takamaka white rum, watermelon liqueur, strawberry, apple and charcoal lemonade.
5. Bundobust’s Pumpkin Samosas
Back by popular-demand, Bundobust have confirmed the return of their much-loved Halloween treat, Pumpkin Samosas, as well as complimentary sweet treats for Diwali. The deep-fried green spinach and nigella seed pastry, filled with pumpkin and peas spiced with house garam massala, chilli and garlic will return on Monday 31st October until Friday 4th November. Each Pumpkin Samosa is lovingly handmade by Bundobust’s chefs meaning they’re available in limited supply each day. If you celebrate lights over frights, Bundobust are also giving away free Mithai from Lily’s at the bar as part of their Diwali celebrations on Monday 24th October from midday.
6. Wolf at the Door’s Halloween bao and taco specials
Taco bout perfect timing. In the build up to the spooky season, Wolf at the Door has launched two Halloween specials- a taco and a bao bun. Their ‘Taco Lantern’, which is vegan, is filled with pumpkin spiced ham, butter braised scallion, chipotle mayo, tofu ‘feta’, crispy corn nuts and burnt leek ash. As for their ‘Ghoul-ash Bao’, you can tuck into a fluffy bao bun filled with Hungarian beef goulash, black pepper soured cream and chopped parsley.
7. The Midland’s devilish drinks
This Autumn and Halloween, The Midland in Manchester has concocted a selection of spooky food and drink treats to be enjoyed in The Champagne Lounge, Tea Room and Mount Street Dining Room & Bar. From October 8th, Pumpkin Spiced Lattes are available in The Champagne Lounge and The Tea Room, with both a non-alcoholic and alcoholic option available. From October 22nd – 31st, guests can also enjoy some Halloween Cookies when ordering coffee in The Champagne Lounge, and for those wanting something to really get in the mood for the spooky season, they can enjoy a Peek A’Boo cocktail from both The Champagne Lounge and Mount Street, which includes Absolut Vodka, St Germain, Elderflower, Lychee Liqueur, Lemon Juice and Sugar. Just be sure not to stare at that cocktail too long!
