In Manchester, we like to think we’re pretty community-oriented, with plenty of festivals and events bringing people together throughout the year. One of these events began last year, The Great Street Feast Manchester, which brought together six chefs from across the city for a night to celebrate the culinary diversity of Manchester, alongside raising money for Freedom from Torture.
The Great Street Feast is set to return this year on Thursday 10 October for a fabulous evening of gourmet street food and entertainment, in support of torture survivors, and will be hosted at No 1 Circle Square, starting at 6.30pm and finishing at 9.30pm. On the night, the charity aims to raise another £30,000 to support more asylum seekers and refugees living in the North West.
This year’s line-up of chefs at the Great Street Feast includes:
- Sam Buckley, Chef Patron at Michelin Green-star restaurant Where the Light Gets In
- Sam Grainger, Chef Patron at Medlock Canteen
- Maray
- Dishoom
- The Little Sri Lankan
- Survivor and Chef, Nafa, who will be making dessert
To quench your thirst, specially selected wines provided by Farr Vintners will flow throughout the evening, alongside a delicious selection of non-alcoholic drinks. If this fantastic festival of food wasn’t enough, Manc legend Stan Chow will also be on the decks, creating the soundtrack to the evening, making this the perfect night in aid of a wonderful cause.
The likes of John Thomson and other activist celebrities were in attendance at last year’s event, and there’s a celebrity speaker yet to be announced for the section from 7.45pm on the night, so you’ll be rubbing shoulders with some pretty familiar faces. There will also be the chance to win indulgent prizes in the Grand Raffle and Gastronome-inspired auction.
For anyone who would like to enjoy a drink pre or post event, the charity’s friends at North Taproom: Circle Square (located opposite the venue) have kindly given a 10% discount on 10 October for anyone who shows their ticket.
Tickets are £55 and include all food, drinks and entertainment, and you can book yours here.
Freedom from Torture’s Manchester Centre is based next to Moss Side Leisure Centre, where they support survivors of torture to recover by providing psychological therapy, alongside campaigning for a more equitable asylum system. You can read more about the charity here.
