We love a good vintage and charity shop in Manchester, helping us to shop sustainably and remain the most stylish city in the country. Now, Oxfam has opened its brand-new charity superstore in Manchester – marking the poverty-fighting organisation’s second ever superstore in the UK.
The new 10,000 sq ft superstore opened its doors for the first time in Manchester Fort Shopping Park in Cheetham this morning (Friday 19 July), with two floors full of preloved clothing, accessories, books, homewares and music, as well a café housed in an Oxfam water tank.
As part of the grand opening, the superstore is also hosting a raffle inside the store for the chance to win the FA Cup-winning Manchester United T-shirt, signed by their first team squad. The store – which follows on from the success of Oxfam’s first superstore in Oxford in 2019 – comes as Oxfam announces exciting plans to open up to ten new superstores in the next five years.
Halima Begum, Oxfam’s CEO, said: “It’s such a pleasure to be here to officially open the Oxfam Manchester superstore and to welcome so many visitors for our first day.
“The store is wonderful. I’ve already spotted a very pretty pre-loved blouse to buy and a great book about Emmeline Pankhurst, an inspirational daughter of Manchester. My next stop is the new café for a cuppa!
“Our wonderful shops represent the very heart of everything we do at Oxfam. We really hope the new Manchester superstore will not only help raise funds for the life-saving work Oxfam does all over the world, but also acts as a hub for the local community to come together – whether that is for workshops, book clubs, talks, community groups or more.”
Inside the superstore also features Oxfam’s unique Sourced by Oxfam range of ethically-sourced and sustainable new products – as well as showcasing products such as MioMojo handbags, which are recycled, biodegradable or bio-based bags created from foods such as apples and cactuses.
The new Manchester Oxfam charity superstore is now open.
