Merging Mexico with Manchester, El Capo in the Northern Quarter has really cornered the market, offering a chippy tea Burrito, the ‘Chippy Tea-juana’, and a chippy tea taco, ‘It’s Chippy’. It’s all to celebrate National Chip Week (I know right!).
Available now, both include “fish, chips, mushy peas, all the trimmings combined to make something so outrageously tasty.” All the best bits of a chippy tea, without the mess! Although, once you dip it in gravy there’s no telling the chaos that could ensue.
The tacos offer a bite-size alternative to the big guns, with beer battered fish, mushy peas, chips and tartare sauce, packing a punch in a small package – perfect for picky bits. The burritos come with a pot of gravy, ready for generous pouring or dipping, whatever your style, and El Capo has extended their Margarita deal, meaning £6 Margaritas from their special Marg menu Thursday – Sunday!
Although the chippy tea range has been introduced this week to celebrate National Chip Week, the menu will be available for a month, meaning you can get your delicious, if slightly weird, concoction until way into March!
If you don’t fancy celebrating the humble chippy tea, El Capo will still be serving their usual Mexican menu, complete with (normal) burritos and tacos, chips and dips, tapas, and wings, of course accompanied by their pretty perfect drinks menu, including Margaritas (obvs), beer, and wine.
But do try the chippy tea treat if you can – remember, people once frowned upon chip butties and pie barms, and look where we are now!
As the Lancashire Hotpots once said: “I’m a working man from Lancashire and I wants a chippy tea” – no truer word has been said and really reflects the mood of our primal Northern needs.
